15 Ways to Bring On-Trend Indigo into Your Home

My home color palette and the colors I gravitate to are the greys, greens, and blues.

Enter the seductive color of indigo. Indigo adds that deep richness that I’m craving this time of year. Bonus is that the color is totally on-trend right now and you can score some great deals at affordable retail stores and online dealers.  Indigo hue is timeless yet will add a fresh look to today’s greyed out neutrals.  Think Restoration Hardware with a pop of indigo ~ Swoon!

http://www.thedecorstylist.com/blogTo feed my indigo crush, I recently read Catherine E. McKinley’s Indigo: In search of The Color that Seduced the World, a history lesson on this precious dye and it’s ancient heritage.  I highly recommend the read and BONUS ALERT: the book jacket is awesome; a lovely way to add a pop of indigo to your coffee table styling.)

Here are my top 15 Indigo product picks (plus a few extra for good measure!)

Happy shopping, y’all

World Market:

  • Indigo Organic Reactive Glaze Serving PlatterIndigo Organic Reactive Glaze Serving Platter  I bought this platter to pair with my blue and white Polish Pottery that I bring out this time of year.  You can learn more about the ancient Polish Pottery here which originated in the early 1800’s.  It’s still created today by Boleslawiec skilled artists individually handcrafting and hand painting each piece of pottery using a hand-stamping technique and free-hand design.

Blue Ikat Ogee Napkins

  • While you are on the World Market site, check out the Blue Ikat Ogee Napkins too.  What an easy way to add some of that scrumptious deep blue color!
  • You might as well enjoy the gorgeous indigo color as you head out the door with an Indigo Patchwork Infinity Scarf.

Anthropologie‘s aesthetically pleasing retail stores are chock full of unique boho-chic clothing, accessories and home decor.  Whenever I walk into one of their stores, I think French flea market.  As an Anthro bonus, here’s a great read by Mental Floss blog ~ 18 Stylish Facts About Anthropologie.  While on the pricey side of what I would call affordable, you can find items that fit the budget bill. Here are a couple of options that celebrate our love of indigo AND are affordable.

  • Indigo and Shibori Natural Dye Kit ~ This is a great option and DIY craft idea.  All you need is plant-dyed cotton or jersey knit cloth.  The kit has everything you need to create one of a kind, abstract Shibori Designs.  Shibori is a Jananese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it in indigo.  If you are interested in learning more, check out Design Sponge’s DYI Shibori Designs 4 Ways

  • While you are there, check out this terrific cotton jersey Nila T-Shirt Dress.  I love it!

There’s something totally relaxing about wandering around a TJMaxx or Home Goods store hunting a sweet deal.  But if you’re like me and just don’t have time for that crap, then you are in luck.  TJ Maxx is now online.  Can I get an Alleluia?  Took me but a few minutes to score these sweet deals.

  • Euro Ceramica Dinnerware Set which includes 16 pieces (4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates, 4 cereal bowls, and 4 mugs) for 60 bucks.  You can’t beat that price!

  • Happiness JarHappiness Jar – The title says it all!  We use a similar jar at home (ours is green and white) for our Happiness Project. Everyone (immediate family, extended family and friends) periodically write notes to the happiness jar to say what makes them happy that day. We’re going on a couple years with this tradition, and my high schoolers love it (hey, it is not easy to get them excited about one of our traditions). Last year we had a blast opening the notes on New Year’s Eve and reminiscing the good and hilarious antics of the past year.   My favorite from last year, written by a friend of my son Ryan, “I’m happy Mrs. Jackson still allows me in this house!”

Target has tons of options in the blue and white color palette.  They are also big on the gold and bare wood trends, which look great with indigo!
